We can back-up your music from our hard-drives to CD-ROM or DVD-R when your project is finished. There are actually two masters:
Stereo Master Mix (equivalent to a DAT, or a 2-track reel-to-reel): For a typical ten song CD, it would take about 45 minutes to burn and verify this CD-ROM at 2x speed to maximum quality.
Multi-Track Master (equivalent to a set of ADAT tapes, or a reel of 24-track analogue tape): This contains all of your individual music tracks, still in 24-bit data format. The cost depends on the size of the project, which determines the time and materials required. Most twelve song projects fall in the 10Gb range.
Do you have final say over the final mix down? Many studios force their final mix on you. At Red Curtain, we let you have the final say on the final mix. In most cases, we mix it and master it without you here, then make CD proofs for you to take home and listen to at your own leisure. Then, if adjustments need to be made, we can get together for a touch-up session to take care of the final details. Once all adjustments have been completely finished, we burn your final CD master for duplication.
Please note: We do a much better job in much less time if we have no distractions while mixing and mastering. It's become a very complicated procedure, requiring total concentration. Most studios do only tracking and mixing which is complicated enough, but not mastering too. We are performing all three. The bulk of the work can be done without the client, this is simpler for everybody.
